Two Weeks Up the Australian East Coast

Liam's drawing of the Great Barrier Reef - hopefully we see all these creatures!

Here we go...

Tomorrow morning we all get in the car by 5 am and begin a 2 week once-in-a-lifetime trip!

Who are we kidding...everyone of our trips in the last 6 months has felt like a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Here's the plan:

  • 1400 km drive to Hervey Bay in Queensland while making stops in Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Brisbane and the Gold Coast over the first few days.
  • Brisbane is our launching point for Moreton Island - and a later 1700 km flight from Brisbane up to Cairns - the launching point for Green Island, possibly the Daintree Rainforest, and hopefully, the Outer Great Barrier Reef.
  • Hervey Bay is our launching point for Lady Elliott Island and the Eco-Resort Overnight stay by small plane.
The route

If all goes according to plan, we'll handfeed wild dolphins, snorkel shipwrecks, cuddle many koalas, swim with sea turtles and manta rays, reef walk in the Great Barrier Reef, watch humpback whales breach up close...and maybe even finally find koalas in the wild (alright the last one has been a work-in-progress since Port Stephens!)

In a few weeks, we hope to post blogs and photos of all this great stuff - in the meantime - we'll try to post things to Facebook as it happens.

Our Aussie adventure is half-way done...yikes!

So lucky indeed....carpe diem!
